In the section of the website about Airframe, Crichton was asked if there would be a movie of the novel and he replied:

Quote:
No. When we got to the point of budgeting the script, we realized that it was just too expensive to be a practical proposition. The studio would never make its money back. Disney was willing to go ahead, but I was not. So I killed the project and re-acquired the rights. For the moment, it is a dead project.

I wonder if the computer technology available today would make an Airframe film a feasible project.

Some time ago I heard something about an Indian Film Maker and an interest in making Airframe. I will try to look into it.

This seems like the perfect film for Michael to direct. It would allow him to focus not really on the whole incident. Too many filmmakers would overdo the whole scene. I think the movie should focus more on the characters and there roles in trying to figure out what happened than the incident.

bglah91989,

Interesting ideas. Let us know what you find out. An Airframe movie would be something I'd love to see, especially if Michael could have a hand in it to keep it reasonably true to the story.

This is of interesting note: http://www.tribute.ca/movies/Airframe/606. However, that is not that article I was looking for. I'll have to check my old computer for the files. I think i had saved them on it.

Airframe is such a good book. I wish it were better known so we'd see it on the book shelves, for sale. In fact, I wish all of Michael's books, including his early ones, perhaps differently colored, were always available. I don't suppose Michael and his employees would mind much. ;)

I can’t think of a single Michael Crichton book that “shouldn’t” be made into a film.

I think the strong points in this novel are the debunking of many of the myths surrounding the airline industry, and particularly showing how over-engineered much of the equipment is, and made to withstand 10-20-30 times their expected tolerances.

The thing about how everyone always blames the airframe, when usually it's unregulated foreign maintenance, counterfeit parts, pilot error, etc.

I love Kenny Burns’ character, a tough no nonsense engineer who still takes pride in his profession as opposed to the sell-outs and media flakes who wouldn’t know integrity if it bit them in the aft section.

Kind of reminds me of George Kennedy in Airport.

I like how the lead character is a woman too. Maybe it’s just me but a lot of females in MC’s books are portrayed as bimbo’s. The men too, but for some reason it seems like he pegs the women with astonishing accuracy, (maybe cause of all those California cocktail parties he was obligated to endure) but it’s good to see a competent, smart, woman in the left seat for a change.

I’m not sure how they would pull off showing the media for the lopsided tabloids they’ve become. It would take half the movie.

The only reservations I had about the book were the two “factory floor” thugs who assaulted Casey. Were they brought up for review? Did they get fired, or were they given raises?

Back ups...

Angelina Jolie – Too predictable
Paris Hilton – Too unpredictable
Gweneth Paltrow – Too nice
Ann Colter – Too mean
Charlize Theron – Too beautiful
Halli Berry or Jessica Alba too much booty
Uma Therman – Yeah maybe...

I think Jodie Foster will be a good Casey Singleton.
Either way she has to be portrayed by a strong actress, but that is my opinion :)
