I allready loved this book since the official anouncement, without even reading it!
MC was a briliant mixer of fact and fiction.
And I love to read historical fiction, like 'the great train robbery'

Good to know that we shall have some last bit of new Crichton novels. A good sendoff.

It is only two months now before Pirate Latitudes is released...
I have found the UK cover on the Harper Collins site:

http://www.harpercollins.co.uk/Titles/4 ... 0007329083

It is a total different from the US cover which has a nice calm blue color.
The UK edition is more aggressive, because of the red color and the thunder storm above the dark pirate ship...
I like it very much... tough I prefer the US cover.

Hi Juroc,

Just a little Dutch question.
I was talking to a few people today here in Holland about MC's popularity in the low lands and we were wondering which book made MC really popular here/ when did he became known in Europe.

And second question: would you think pirate latitudes and Spielberg's movie of it, will bring even more fame to his name?
In other words will more Europeans become curious about the man behind the books?

Hi Ingrid,
As you know there are a lot of books being read in the netherlands.
This week was a lot of attention to the new book from Dan Brown, and last week it was Heleen van Royen's turn.
Michael Crichton never got such attention from the Dutch media, only it was mentioned briefly when he passed away last year... I think the Andromeda Strain was the first novel people in Holland read, but Jurassic Park will remain the novel the Dutch will think of MC signature novel.

I hope the media will give more attention to MC when the movie Pirate Latitudes is being released in the cinema.
But I doubt it, they will speak of Spielberg's next film etc.
However I am glad that the movierights are in the capable hands of mr. Spielberg.

Just a few weeks and Pirate Latitudes will be released!
Harper Collins UK released a trailer for the English release:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lJ5Fe_vHF8

and on the site of Harper Collins UK you can listen to a sample of the first chapter :

Wow Juroc, well done! Thanks!
I was surprised how much it affected me to look at these trailers!
It will be so strange now to read this book and watch the movie.

Did you notice btw the book will be released earlier in Europe?
Wonder why that is.

I too enjoyed the trailer for the book... the design was very cool... can't wait to finally read this book.
I am very curious how the giant squid will be described. Could this be a Lusca (Caribbean legendary seamonster:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lusca)?

Because I am such a fan of Michael Crichton, I have ordered the US edition (altough it will be released later then the UK edition). I don't know why Harper Collins is doing this... perhaps it is about an English pirate?

I haven't got a clue either, nor do the bookshops from what I hear.
The American Book Center told me that both the U.S. edition and Britsh edition, both hard cover and paperback! are all going to be released in November, but they could not tell me when.

In the meantime we can read the first 56 pages of the book :D you can browse it on the harper collins website:

http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9780 ... index.aspx

it's great!

In my country authorities tried again to restore many buildings which were destroyed by communists.... But even if this building is rebuild accurately as it was, it is not the same building...
The same is situations with novels. If somebody will copy Michael style and will finish unfinished book all the same it will not be Michael book.
